Doodzonde is an speculative science fiction installation by Carolien Teunisse and Mar.devrieska.st that takes us to a distant future,
where humanity is just a vague memory, and the remaining nature has taken over.
Old technologies, once the pinnacle of human progress, are now embraced by the greenery of nature, serving as witnesses to an era that once was.
A basin of lush plants grows over a pile of forgotten televisions. These plants, using sensors that monitor their behavior, select video clips from a database of the past. Visitors can follow this process on separate screens.
The installation is made from recycled old media technology and images, analog media, and carriers that are more understandable and accessible to ignorant entities of the future, in contrast to today's modern, complex digital devices.
The images selected by the plants evoke a sense of nostalgia for a time when humanity reached its peak—a time of discoveries, adventures, and boundless wonder. In this way, we are reminded of the echoes of a time that once was and the value of what has been lost. This underscores the urgent need to responsibly manage our resources and cultivate a harmonious relationship with our planet for future generations.
